As a mother of teenage daughters and a former elected City Clerk, she has planted deep roots in her community, and established herself as not just a leader, but a changemaker.
Myla’s journey in public service began as a Field Deputy for the late Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald, where she learned the power of grassroots advocacy. As a representative for Senator Bradford, she was integral in advancing legislation that secured resources for underserved communities, such as the return of Bruce’s Beach to its heirs, and the implementation of the Ebony Alert to assist in locating missing Black children and young women. MYLA'S ISSUES

Housing Stability
In a district where 63% of residents are renters, the rising cost of living is the primary driver of economic instability. CA-43 faces a unique crisis where even median earners are being priced out of their own neighborhoods.
-
Build Affordable Housing: Focus on expanding federal subsidies for affordable housing construction– to build specifically for the 34% of households earning under $50k.
-
Protections for Renters: Support federal legislation to cap annual rent increases for corporate-owned properties; and strengthen federal protections to prevent predatory evictions and "renovictions" that displace long-term residents.
-
Sustainable Ownership: Support first-time homebuyers by funding community land trusts and down-payment assistance programs to help move young families from renting to owning – building generational wealth in our community.

Economic Opportunity for the Next Generation
With a young and growing workforce, CA-43 is the engine of the Los Angeles economy. I will work to create a self-sustaining local economy where the next generation doesn't have to leave the district to find a high-paying career.
-
A Living Wage for All: Fight for a federal minimum wage that reflects the true cost of living.
-
Youth Job Training: Invest in green energy and tech vocational programs in our high schools and community colleges to prepare our youth for the jobs of 2030.
-
Support for Small Business: Create specialized grants for minority-owned and veteran-owned businesses, recognizing that our district thrives on its diverse entrepreneurial spirit.

Equity & Civil Rights
Our diversity is our greatest strength– As one of the most diverse districts in the country, CA-43 feels the impact of systemic inequality more acutely than most. I will fight for a system that sees and serves everyone.
-
Criminal Justice Reform: Fight to reform federal sentencing laws and redirect resources toward community-based public safety and mental health services over incarceration.
-
Protecting Immigrant Families: With a population that is 32% Latino, we must champion a pathway to citizenship and defend the rights of all residents from federal overreach, regardless of status.
-
Environmental Justice: Fight for cleaner air and water in our urban corridors, ensuring that our heavily urbanized neighborhoods are not the dumping grounds for industrial pollution.

Healthcare for Every Zip Code
In a district with significant health disparities, access to care cannot be a luxury. By prioritizing preventative care and maternal health resources, I will work to close the life-expectancy gap that persists across our zip codes.
-
Protecting Medi-Cal & Medicare: Firmly oppose any cuts to federal healthcare funding that our seniors and low-income families rely on.
-
Maternal Health: Expand funding for prenatal and postnatal care, focusing on reducing the disproportionate mortality rates faced by Black and Latina mothers in our district.
-
Mental Health Access: Increase the number of community health centers in South LA and surrounding areas to provide free or low-cost counseling and addiction services.
